--INSTALLATION--
Installation For Windows (R) 95:
Place the Ice & Fire disk into your CD-ROM drive. Windows will
recognize that Ice & Fire has not been installed and will Autorun
the installation program.
When the installation menu pops-up, you will be offered the
following options:
Install
Unistall
Play
Cancel
Click Install to copy the Ice & Fire files to your hard drive.
Please read 'For both Windows (R) 95 and 3.1' below for final
installation instructions:
Installation for Windows (R) 3.1:
Place the CD into your CD-ROM drive.
From the Windows Program Manager, Select FILE, and the RUN.
Then type X:\if\setup (where X is the letter representing your
CD-ROM drive).
Then follow the on screen instructions. After installation,
run the game by double-clicking on the Ice & Fire icon.
For both Windows (R) 95 and 3.1:
Once you begin the installation, you will be asked to
choose between a Minimal, Standard or Huge installation.
Minimal is just for testing, but is the quickest install.
If you don't have 15 MB of free disk space, this is your
only option.
Standard is recommended. Enough of the Ice & Fire files
will be loaded onto your hard drive to guartentee quick
response time. It will take up 30 MB of space.
Huge will copy ALL 600+ MB onto your hard drive. This will
take approximately 2 hours. After a Huge install, you will
not need the CD-ROM to play and game speed will be improved.
If you only have 8 MB of RAM, be sure to have Windows Smartdrive
installed and don't forget to make sure the Windows swap file
is big enoug- at least 12 MB.
Check to see that smartdrive.exe has also been started in your
autoexec.bat file.
To run Ice & Fire, double click on the IF icon that was created
in the program manager.
To run Ice & Fire with special options, run the IF_W.EXE from
the Program Manager: File Run Command Line, and include
any of the following special arguments:
IF_W.EXE /NO_SOUND - without sounds
IF_W.EXE /NO_INTRO - without intro
IF_W.EXE /NO_MUSIC - without music
Push Z to play the intro in full screen mode.

CONTROLS in the maze
A - ice blaster shot
S - fire blaster shot
Ctrl-A - rapid ice burst
Ctrl-S - rapid fire burst
Shift-A - ice missile
Shift-S - fire missile
Ctrl-<Arrow-Up> - jump
Ctrl-<Arrow-Left>- shift to the left
Ctrl-<Arrow-Right>- shift to the right
Alt-F4 - exit
ESC - go to main menu
Z - zoom-toggle
<Shift><Arrow Left/Right> ,PgUp, PgDn - select objects from
the pocket
<Space bar> - Activate the current object
TAB - map toggle
P - game pause toggle
H - call soldiers for help
E - Explode the Fire bomb
Mouse Control- To move forward, place the mouse above the center
crosshairs and press the left button. This will move you forward.
Likewise, placing the mouse below the cross hairs moves you in
reverse. The farther away from the center crosshairs, the faster
you move. To move left or right, move the mouse to the left or
right side of the screen (while pressing the left mouse button).
Joystick or Virtual IO support- Go to the Options menu of
Ice & Fire, and set the control to joystick or Virtual IO.

CONTROLS in the Cruiser
Space bar - fire missile
Arrow keys - motion control and turns
ESC - exit and go to the maze.
Z - zoom-toggle
Alt-F4 - exit
P - game pause toggle
Tab - map toggle
Mouse control- Use the right button to shoot. Use the left
button to select your direction. To position your direction
place the mouse arrow in the center of the game screen.
Position it in the middle to go straight; move it to the left
to select the left path; move it right to select the right
path. The arrows in the interface will also show you which
path you have selected.
Trouble shooting

To insure that the speed of your keyboard matches the desired
speed of game play, go to the Control Panel and click
on the Keyboard icon. Set up two parameters in the Keyboard
window- Delay Before First Repeat to Short and Repeat Rate to Fast.
Switch your Windows to 256 color mode to run the game
faster.
