  8. --INSTALLATION--
  9.  
  10. Installation For Windows (R) 95:
  11. Place the Ice & Fire disk into your CD-ROM drive.  Windows will
  12. recognize that Ice & Fire has not been installed and will Autorun
  13. the installation program.
  14.  
  15. When the installation menu pops-up, you will be offered the
  16. following options:
  17.  
  18.          Install
  19.          Unistall
  20.          Play
  21.          Cancel
  22.  
  23. Click Install to copy the Ice & Fire files to your hard drive.
  24.  
  25. Please read 'For both Windows (R) 95 and 3.1' below for final
  26. installation instructions:

  28. Installation for Windows (R) 3.1:
  29.  
  30. Place the CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  31. From the Windows Program Manager, Select FILE, and the RUN.
  32. Then type X:\if\setup (where X is the letter representing your
  33. CD-ROM drive).
  34. Then follow the on screen instructions. After installation,
  35. run the game by double-clicking on the Ice & Fire icon.

  38. For both Windows (R) 95 and 3.1:
  39.  
  40. Once you begin the installation, you will be asked to
  41. choose between a Minimal, Standard or Huge installation.
  42.  
  43.    Minimal is just for testing, but is the quickest install.
  44.    If you don't have 15 MB of free disk space, this is your
  45.    only option.
  46.  
  47.    Standard is recommended.  Enough of the Ice & Fire files
  48.    will be loaded onto your hard drive to guartentee quick
  49.    response time.  It will take up 30 MB of space.
  50.  
  51.    Huge will copy ALL 600+ MB onto your hard drive.  This will
  52.    take approximately 2 hours.  After a Huge install, you will
  53.    not need the CD-ROM to play and game speed will be improved.

  55. If you only have 8 MB of RAM, be sure to have Windows Smartdrive
  56. installed and don't forget to make sure the Windows swap file
  57. is big enoug- at least 12 MB.

  59. Check to see that smartdrive.exe has also been started in your
  60. autoexec.bat file.

  62. To run Ice & Fire, double click on the IF icon that was created
  63. in the program manager.
  64.  
  65. To run Ice & Fire with special options, run the IF_W.EXE from
  66. the Program Manager: File Run Command Line, and include
  67. any of the following special arguments:

  69. IF_W.EXE /NO_SOUND - without sounds
  70. IF_W.EXE /NO_INTRO - without intro
  71. IF_W.EXE /NO_MUSIC - without music
  72.  
  73. Push Z to play the intro in full screen mode.

  79. S - fire blaster shot

  90. <Shift><Arrow Left/Right> ,PgUp, PgDn - select objects from
  91. the pocket
  92. <Space bar> - Activate the current object

  94. P - game pause toggle
  95. H - call soldiers for help
  96. E - Explode the Fire bomb

  98. Mouse Control- To move forward, place the mouse above the center
  99. crosshairs and press the left button.  This will move you forward.
  100. Likewise, placing the mouse below the cross hairs moves you in
  101. reverse.  The farther away from the center crosshairs, the faster
  102. you move.  To move left or right, move the mouse to the left or
  103. right side of the screen (while pressing the left mouse button).

  105. Joystick or Virtual IO support- Go to the Options menu of
  106. Ice & Fire, and set the control to joystick or Virtual IO.

  109. CONTROLS in the Cruiser

  111. Space bar - fire missile
  112. Arrow keys - motion control and turns
  113. ESC - exit and go to the maze.
  114. Z - zoom-toggle
  115. Alt-F4 -  exit

  117. Tab - map toggle

  119. Mouse control- Use the right button to shoot. Use the left
  120. button to select your direction. To position your direction
  121. place the mouse arrow in the center of the game screen.
  122. Position it in the middle to go straight; move it to the left
  123. to select the left path; move it right to select the right
  124. path. The arrows in the interface will also show you which
  125. path you have selected.

  127. Trouble shooting

  129. To insure that the speed of your keyboard matches the desired
  130. speed of game play, go to the Control Panel and click
  131. on the Keyboard icon. Set up two parameters in the Keyboard
  132. window- Delay Before First Repeat to Short and Repeat Rate to Fast.

  134. Switch your Windows to 256 color mode to run the game
  135. faster.
